Rhode Island’s education system could use improvement for students, families, and teachers who deserve a system built around skills, opportunity, and the future. Not bureaucracy, outdated priorities, and endless testing.
1. Move Beyond Standardized Testing and Teach Real Skills
My plan:
• Reduce standardized testing weight.
• Emphasize project-based learning and hands-on education.
• Support teacher innovation and modern instruction.
2. Expand Vocational & Technical Training (CTE)
Not every student wants to attend college. High-paying trades are in demand. My plan:
• Expand CTE programs statewide.
• Partner with unions and businesses for apprenticeships.
• Provide industry certifications and transportation access.
3. Embrace Technology and AI
AI is reshaping the economy. My plan:
• Integrate AI and digital literacy into curricula.
• Upgrade classroom technology.
• Build partnerships for STEM pathways.
• Protect student data privacy.
4. Strengthen the Teacher Workforce
Teachers need support to succeed. My plan:
• Reduce administrative burdens.
• Improve classroom resources.
• Expand mentoring and specialized training.
5. Support Student Well-Being
Education must support the whole student. My plan:
• Increase mental health staff.
• Strengthen after-school programs.
• Improve behavioral support.
6. Build the Workforce That Builds Rhode Island
My vision:
• Teach financial literacy and real-life skills.
• Build employer partnerships.
• Create pathways that keep students in Rhode Island.
